Rent a Villa in Kalamitsi Ionian Islands
Kalamitsi is one traditional village in Lefkada. It is located 20km southwest from Lefkas and it is one of the oldest villages on the island. Nowadays is much smaller than it use to be before the earthquake. A large number of residents moved to larger cities when a very strong earthquake struck Lefkada in the mid-20th century, and even today, cracked walls of houses can be seen. The site is decorated with the Panagia ton Kipon church and 13 stone windmills. There are several local taverns with delicious food in Kalamitsi, shops with souvenirs and local products, gyros, bakeries … The village has some special charm because it feels antique and continuity in existence, unlike some purpose-built small towns.
The capital of Lefkada, Lefkas is only twenty kilometers away and you can find everything you want from the amenities. If you are visiting Lefkas, be sure to visit the Faneromeni Monastery, which offers fantastic views of the sea and Agios Ioannis beach and has a beautifully landscaped yard with a mini zoo.
